Description

Vaonis recommends a 30-minute exposure for the Iris Nebula, so I doubled it and did an hour on May 18th after midnight in the light of an almost full moon.  A total of 331 ten second exposures were stacked with Vaonis software to produce the final result.  Vaonis has the following information regarding the nebula.  "The Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula that was discovered by William Herschel in 1794 that is at a distance of 1300 light years from earth.  Surrounded by huge clouds of interstellar dust, the Iris nebula is a beautiful, blue reflection nebula in the constellation of Cepheus.  NGC 7023 has a bright young star in its center, and the gases gradually darken as it is surrounded by clouds of interstellar dust."

The TIFF that the Vespera produced was processed with Pixinsight and Photoshop.
